Full definition
Polychloroprene foam with interconnected cell structure that is permeable to air and moisture. Softer and more compressible than closed-cell versions, making it ideal for applications requiring conformability and breathability rather than waterproofing. Density: 100-400 kg/m³. Key properties: excellent cushioning and energy absorption, good acoustic insulation (open cells trap sound waves), inherent weather resistance and flame retardancy from CR base polymer, and moderate chemical resistance. Per ASTM D1056 Type 2D classifications. Applications: acoustic panels and sound-deadening linings, cushioning for sensitive equipment, cosmetic and cleaning sponges, padding in protective gear, air filtration media (coarse), and applicator pads. Thicknesses: 3-50 mm. Available as sheet, roll, die-cut gaskets, and strips. Open-cell structure provides: superior sound absorption at mid-high frequencies (NRC 0.4-0.8), excellent impact cushioning, and low-force conformability to irregular surfaces. Not suitable for waterproof seals or submerged applications — use closed-cell neoprene foam for those requirements.
