Element that retains contaminant particles from lubricating or hydraulic oil to protect components from premature wear. Filtration efficiency measured by beta ratio (β): β10 = 75 means 75% retention of particles >10 µm. Types: cartridge, bag, magnetic, centrifugal. Oil cleanliness per ISO 4406 particle code. Typical hydraulic target: ISO 16/14/11. Brands: Parker Hannifin, Pall, Hydac, Donaldson. Replace every 2,000-4,000 operating hours.
