ISO 45001

International standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OH&S MS) — the global framework for systematically managing workplace health and safety risks, preventing work-related injuries and ill health, and providing safe, healthy workplaces. Published in 2018 as the successor to OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001 uses the Annex SL high-level structure shared with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, facilitating integration of quality, environmental, and safety management into a single system. Key requirements: context of the organization (interested parties, scope), leadership and worker participation, planning (hazard identification, risk assessment, legal requirements), support (resources, competence, awareness, communication), operation (operational planning and control, emergency preparedness), performance evaluation (monitoring, measurement, internal audit, management review), and improvement (incident investigation, corrective actions, continual improvement). Worker consultation and participation is a central theme — more prominent than in OHSAS 18001. Certification: by accredited registrar, 3-year cycle with annual surveillance. Over 400,000 certificates issued globally. In Mexico, ISO 45001 aligns with NOM-030-STPS (occupational safety services) and supports compliance with all safety NOMs. Per ISO 45001:2018.
