Empaque (MX/CO) vs Junta (AR/CL)

Regional terms for a gasket — the flat sealing element compressed between flanges or mating surfaces to prevent leakage. In Mexico and Colombia: "empaque" is the standard industrial term — "empaque de motor" (engine head gasket), "empaque de brida" (flange gasket), "empaque de neopreno" (neoprene gasket). In Argentina and Chile: "junta" — "junta de culata" (head gasket), "junta de brida" (flange gasket), "junta torica" (O-ring, literally "toroidal gasket"). In Spain: "junta" is standard. The universal technical term "guarnicion" is also used in formal technical literature but is rare in everyday industrial language. For rubber product suppliers: catalogs should use the regional term — "empaques industriales" for MX/CO, "juntas industriales" for AR/CL. Both terms refer to the same products: die-cut gaskets from rubber sheet (NR, SBR, NBR, EPDM, neoprene, silicone), compressed fiber gaskets, spiral wound gaskets, and molded rubber seals. The material selection criteria (chemical compatibility, temperature, pressure) are identical regardless of the name used. For pan-LATAM SEO: include both "empaques" and "juntas" in product descriptions.
